Pricing and Booking

Cost and payment questions come up on nearly every first call, so they are gathered here in one place:

What decides the cost of clearing a blocked drain?

Depth, pipe material, how easy the access is, what caused the plug and whether a camera look comes first all shape the figure. You agree a fixed upfront price before anything starts, so hourly-rate guessing never enters it.

How do I get a quote before anything starts?

Ring (07) 3112 7997 and tell us which fixtures are misbehaving. We find the cause, explain the fix and put the figure on paper, and nothing starts until you say yes to it.

Can I pay by card on the day?

Yes, you can pay by card or EFTPOS on the day. The amount agreed beforehand is the amount you pay, so there is no invoice arriving later with extras on it.

How soon can someone look at my drain?

Ring in the morning and we can usually be there the same day. How quickly we arrive depends on the day's bookings, so mention it straight away if sewage is rising through a shower or gully.

How the Work Runs

These cover what happens on the day and what the methods actually involve:

Should I keep using the water while I wait?

If several fixtures are slow together, hold off on taps, toilet flushes and the washing machine, because each extra litre presses on the plug. One slow sink on its own can wait for the visit.

Will clearing a drain mean digging up the yard?

Usually not. Most plugs come out through existing access points using an electric eel or high-pressure jets. Excavation only enters the picture when the pipe itself is damaged, and relining is sometimes a way around the digging.

What is jet blasting, and when is it worth it?

It is high-pressure water that scours the pipe walls rather than just punching a hole through the plug. Grease, silt and sand build-ups respond well, because the walls come away clean instead of catching debris again next month.

Who handles a blockage in Unitywater's main?

Pipes inside your boundary are yours to keep clear, and Unitywater maintains the network beyond the connection. If a camera shows the fault sits out past that point, the authority handles it rather than you.

Drain Questions About the Local Area

The ground and pipe stock here shape every job, so these come up constantly:

Why do drains around town fill with sand?

Beach-ridge sand surrounds the pipes, and groundwater washes fine grains through any joint that has cracked or dropped. With little fall across the flat streets, that grit settles and packs solid instead of flushing away.

Which parts of the area run on septic instead of sewer?

Lots along Bayside Drive and Beachmere Road, among others, treat waste on site rather than connecting to Unitywater's network. There a sluggish drain can point to a soaked trench, so the diagnosis starts somewhere different.

Does flooding change how drains behave here?

Very much so. Nearly the whole locality sits inside council's flood hazard and storm tide mapping, so when a big tide meets heavy rain the outlets have nowhere to drain and low gully traps overflow with no blockage at all.

Are the pipes under older houses different?

Plenty do. Houses from the 1970s and earlier often run on earthenware or asbestos cement laid in short joints, which shift and crack as the ground moves. Those materials misbehave differently from PVC, and repairs are matched accordingly.

Do you cover suburbs beyond Beachmere?

Yes. Our regular run covers Ningi, Godwin Beach, Burpengary East, Morayfield and Caboolture, and each has its own page here spelling out the local pipe stock and ground conditions.

What should never go down the toilet or sink?

Wipes, paper towel, cotton buds, cooking fat and coffee grounds cause most of it. Fat sets on the pipe walls and narrows the run, wipes knot into a mat, and a bathroom bin prevents the whole lot.
